Minutes of PTO Meeting
May 12, 2005

Welcome
Jane Mayo welcomed all and reminded everyone to sign the volunteer log book.

Business
     1. Approval of Minutes Minutes were approved as amended, which were: 1. The Plato program was tabled to next school year and the $470.00 given to MMS were donations received specifically for Plato. That money was applied towards the cost of Plato. 2. Lynn Talley decided not to be President of MMS PTO.
     2. Treasurer's report Heather Shields reported a balance of $13,124.04.

Unfinished Business
    1. Staff Appreciation - May 5th. Jane Mayo read several thank you notes PTO received from teachers concerning teacher appreciation. They were from Wiggins, Mrs. McDowell, and Michelle Hubbs.
     2. Big Red Award         a. Volunteers Terri Stenger reported that last month MMS had 640 volunteer hours. It was suggested that the parent volunteer form be revised to include child's name and email address along with home and work numbers. PTO would like the teachers to get parents to fill out these forms at each grades orientation program. PTO needs more volunteers.         b. Cost for this grading period The 3rd. Big Red Award cost $3020.00. Gear Up paid for the 4th Big Red Award which was the ice cream party.
     3. 8th grade dance The 8th grade dance will be Friday, May 20th. The budget for this is currently $900.00. A motion was made and passed that the amount for next year be $1200.00 because the cost of the DJ has gone up significantly. Gear Up is going to pay for the drinks, Elizabeth Shaller will get HiC punch and gingerale from BiLo next week.
     4. Awnings The awnings cost exactly $6000.00
     5. Officers Jane Mayo was pleased to announce that Christina Sapp has agreed to take the PTO President position next year. There are several positions that still need to be filled which include a possible co-president, vice president, and secretary. Still need someone to do the web site for PTO. A big thank you was extended to Theresa Trammel for her years of doing the outside bulletin board. Sherry Brewer has agreed to take over that job next year and she will try to recruit Joan Estes. Jane Mayo will get together with Christina Sapp over the summer to go over magazine sales fundraiser.   

New Business

Funding Requests
1. Scrapbooks Rita Esterwood (school nurse) has requested $65.00 to purchase a scrapbook for the new weight management and self-esteem program she has developed. A motion was made and passed. It was suggested that this program could include hygiene for students as well.
