e) Funding requests
1. Mrs. Davis is developing a new incentive program. This program requires all teachers to give at least one paper to be written by students each nine weeks. Some of the students who produced outstanding papers will be recognized by getting name announced over the intercom system and a certificate. They would also receive a candy bar. Thus Mrs. Davis is asking for the PTO to fund these candy bars after she has worked out the kinks. Mrs. Davis also would like to start candy bar rewards for students in 3 different ways; grades, attendance, and good behaviors. Mrs. Davis will gather more information (approximate number of children each 9 weeks). Kay Rickman is heading up a committee to work up guidelines. Christina Sapp will attend committee meetings and will report to PTO. PTO feels it's a good program but will vote when we know more about the numbers. Mr. Bell reported that from the survey that was given to students, they would rather have candy or time cards from the Factory than the coupons they have been given in the past. Joette Haller, Special Events Coordinator from the Factory, has been in touch with Mr. Bell and is excited to work with MMS regarding incentives.

2. Funding request for the Play Station Reading Centers. Nick Carlucci from Plato Learning will demonstrate to PTO after meeting. PTO will get more information and will table until next meeting.

3.Funding request from Ms. Brown. She would like the PTO to give money for the maintenance of the Trail. Mr. Bell is trying to get some other help with this request and suggested we table this until next meeting. He will know more then.

4. Funding request from Mrs. Hubbs. She would like the PTO to give her $500.00 to start a Science Olympiad for 8th grade students. The money would go for needed materials and coaches manuals. The PTO suggested that she also ask the Academic Foundation. PTO approved $250.00 hoping that the other $250.00 would be donated from the Academic Foundation.

Gear Up - no report

Other
Mr. Bell - MMS has gotten off to a good start. There are approximately 850 students as compared to 823 last spring. The most difficult problem is still space. MMS is still waiting on county funding. Mr. Bell also reminded PTO that the Molar Roller will be at MMS starting September 7th. This will be of great benefit to our students. Will need to be posted on school sign and hopefully will be put in the newspaper so that parents are aware of this program. His fear is that children will not send home permission slips. Molar Roller will be at MMS for 2 months.

Officer Seagle reported that he is starting to work on Students Against Everywhere Program. Will have more info next meeting
