Business

Approval of minutes for February meeting.

Treasurer's report

Heather Shields reported that the MMS PTO has a balance of $9061.02 . This balance does not reflect the $2000.00 approved for the fiberoptic hook-up to MMS.

New Business
Genia Edmonds reported to the PTO that in the last couple of weeks a fire alarm went off in the MMS and the classes in the trailers did not respond. It was brought to the PTO attention that the sound systems in the trailers do not function. Mr. Bell addressed this issue and reported that he has Smokey Mountain Systems evaluating this problem and will soon have a proposal for him. Unfortunately, it may not be in the budget to link the trailers sound systems together with the main building. However, the outside alarm will be moved in the event this does not happen.

Committee Reports
Newsletter - It was suggested that the newsletter would be a good way for the PTO to communicate with parents what we have accomplished, such as, the PTO approved funding of the fiberoptic line to be connected to MMS. It maybe too late to add to the current newsletter.          Also, the newsletter is coming out next week. Terri Stenger will be passing it out, any help would be appreciated.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation -  Dawn reported that Lowes has agreed to help with the expense of the plants. These plants are given to the teachers and staff. Wayne Cumberland from Angel Medical Center will cater the luncheon at a cost of $6.00 per person. The luncheon is scheduled for Wednesday, May 5th. Volunteers will be need that week to help Dawn.

Volunteer Coordinators - Mrs. Wiggins has already requested volunteers for Heritage Day which is scheduled for Friday, April 23rd.      Volunteers are needed tonight to serve refreshments at the 8th grade drama.

SAS - no report

Front Sign/ Bulletin Board - no report

Funding Requests

Pat Davis has asked for $500.00 to purchase large plastic tubs to house the new books the PTO purchased. Lowes usually donates them but this year has refused. Motion was made and approved.

Mrs. Wiggins asked for $200.00 to cover expenses for Heritage Day. Motion was made and approved.

Mr. Corbin asked for the PTO to help fund a snow & fog machine with juice. Cost would be $495.00 for machine, fog juice is $24.00, and snow is $28.00. This would enable him to do many different kinds of dramas for the school. Motion was made and approved.

Mr. Bell
Mr. Bell reported that possibly he can save the PTO the $2000.00 they agreed to fund to help the drainage and erosion on the walking trail. Dennis Stamey is checking into getting this work done for free. According to Mr. Bell," Dennis Stamey has done a lot of work around MMS and never charged a dime, he has been a good volunteer and friend to MMS." MMS PTO appreciates his time, energy, and work!

Mr. Bell reported that possibly a grant is in the process to the Goldleaf Fund. This could fund the fiberoptic line to 45 schools in WNC if approved. This would free up the $2000.00 that has already been approved by the PTO.

Mr. Bell reported that the report cards will be given out Thursday, March 18th.

Next Meeting is April 22, 2004, 6:00pm, in the MMS cafeteria!
